About Us

Ballet Folklorico Tierra Del Norte (BFTN) was established in Jan. 2019 by Melissa Magana to offer traditional Mexican Folklorico classes to children in the North Texas area. We proudly dance at the Watauga Community Center. The mission of BFTN is to help children gain confidence in themselves, educate and share the Mexican culture, and to give back to the community through dance.

What's in a name? Why Tierra Del Norte?
Tierra del Norte means "Land of the North". The name give homage to our location (North Texas!)

About the instructors:

Adriana Bencomo (assistant instructor) is originally from Phoenix, AZ. She has been dancing for folklorico for over 10 years. Her favorite dance to dance to is La Negra. When she is not dancing, she is busy with her husband, 4 kids and dog. When we tell you she is the master of patience, we mean it!

Melissa Magana (director) is originally from El Paso, TX and began dancing folklorico at the age of 4. After dancing folklorico in a dance company in college, she thought her dancing days were over as she set out to work as an engineer. Fate and opportunity presented itself for her to stay at home with her kids and focus on her passion for dancing. Her goal as director of BFTN is for every child to leave class focused on learning, education and service to the community. The biggest compliment you could give her is to register for her class!
